With 286 rooms, including 15 luxurious suites overlooking Auckland’s vibrant cityscape, the JW Marriott embarked on a major refurbishment project in early 2024. Casambi wireless technology was selected for its seamless installation process and advanced functionality, ensuring the hotel met its operational and guest experience goals.

The Challenge

The refurbishment was conducted floor by floor over a tight nine-month timeline, posing logistical challenges for the client. Compounding this, the existing control system failed to meet the hotel’s needs and, in some cases, was entirely non-functional.

Holders Technology was engaged to address these issues, tasked with designing and implementing a comprehensive lighting and control system for the hotel rooms. The goal was to enhance guest experience while minimizing the need for additional cabling or extensive labor.

The Solution

Holders Technology deployed over 4,500 Casambi nodes, utilizing their flexibility and ease of use to create an efficient, future-proof solution. The scope included:

• Dimming and Lighting Controls: Custom lighting configurations offering mood settings, such as “Welcome” and “Absence” scenes, to maximize guest comfort and energy efficiency in unoccupied rooms.
• Room Status Monitoring: Integrated systems to track room occupancy and readiness.
• Local Switching and Power Control: Simplifying control for guests and staff alike.
• Motorized Blind Control: Seamless integration for added convenience and luxury.

Pre-commissioning every room off-site enabled a streamlined “install-and-go” process, reducing on-site installation time. Holders Technology’s team provided on-site support to address any minor adjustments and ensure a smooth handover.
