Project Background
Bellefields Road is a dynamic new multi-use development in Brixton, London, developed by Squire & Partners adjacent to their existing workspace, The Department Store. As part of this project, Squire & Partners sought to implement advanced, user-friendly, and energy-efficient lighting solutions for the new development. Their goal was to create a versatile lighting system that could adapt to various functions and spaces, while maintaining simplicity for users.
Squire & Partners engaged Holders Technology to integrate a wireless intelligent lighting control system. To demonstrate the power and simplicity of the Casambi ecosystem, Holders Technology first implemented the solution in the original Department Store building, using Casambi to manage street-front signage. This replaced a legacy DMX system, allowing Squire & Partners to change colours and animate the signage with ease, making the space more engaging and modern.
Casambi Lighting Control Solution

The new development includes a mix of flexible open office spaces, a restaurant, and a subterranean cinema, all of which are managed through the Casambi wireless lighting control system. The project takes full advantage of Casambi’s ecosystem and its seamless integration capabilities.
Key Features of the Casambi System:
– Flexible Lighting Control: The lighting in the restaurant area can quickly adapt to different atmospheres throughout the day—from a welcoming café vibe during the morning hours to a trendy evening bar, or a bright working environment when required.
– AV Interface Integration: The Casambi system is integrated with the cinema’s AV hardware, providing synchronized control over lighting to enhance the viewing experience in the subterranean cinema.
– Comprehensive Ecosystem: The project utilized a variety of Casambi ecosystem hardware, including:
– CBU-ASDs: Wireless control units for smooth dimming and automation.
– EnOcean Powered Vimar Wall Plates: Offering a sleek and wireless way for users to interact with the system.
– Danlers Detection Hardware: Ensuring that lighting is only active when needed, optimizing energy usage.
– Scemtech Input Devices: Expanding the system’s input capabilities, allowing for versatile user control.
Results & Benefits
The deployment of Casambi at Bellefields Road has transformed the lighting experience across different spaces, enabling Squire & Partners to manage their environment with flexibility and efficiency. The wireless nature of the Casambi system reduced the need for extensive cabling, minimizing installation time and disruption, and making it easier to adapt and expand the system over time.
The solution provided by Holders Technology not only modernized the lighting of the new development but also highlighted the ease with which advanced lighting control can be integrated into existing and new builds.
